Jenn's Review of the Clarks Wave Cruise
What to Take on a Cruise
Packing for a cruise is unlike packing for any other holiday, because of the various stops you'll make. You may need a wide range of clothing choices for different days, and activities. Of course it all depends on where you're going, but this guide should help you cover the bases for a summer cruise.
Daytime on board
Daytime on board a cruise ship is anything but sedentary (unless you want it to be). There are usually a whole host of activities to keep you busy. From exercise classes to swimming there are so many activities to get involved in.
It's always worth taking a range of outfits for different activities. It's important to take at least two or three swimsuits so you have one to wear and one to wash. You can get gorgeous swimsuits that will pull you in and flatter your tummy, so you can even be glamorous in the pool.
A workout outfit is also important, as there will often be a variety of health and fitness classes to take part in. Take along a choice of casual outfits ranging from relaxed and fashionable to ready for anything. It's worth having some more disposable clothes with you for activities where they might get damaged like rock climbing or surfing.
If you'd rather relax, then stick to the pool and a few spa treatments. Just make sure you have a couple of extra swimming costumes.
On the shore
The clothes you'll need on shore are similar to those you would need on any other holiday. It's best to take plenty of swimwear like swimsuits, swimdresses (good if you're conscious of your thighs), and tankinis. Also ensure that you have a variety of different cover-ups available such as kaftans, sarongs and maybe a couple of on trend maxi dresses.
You'll also need some good sightseeing attire like comfortable shoes, clothes in light, breathable fabrics and a wide brimmed hat for protecting your face and neck. It may also be worth bringing a few more formal daytime outfits for meals out and similar occasions.
Linen trousers can be a lifesaver on holiday, they can be worn for both smart and casual, dry quickly and look stylish with a wide range of tops.
Evening sparkle
Evenings on a cruise ship can be a seriously glamorous affair, or they can be relatively casual. You'll need to make sure that you have plenty of outfits to choose from so you know you'll be looking your best.
You'll need at least a couple of formal dresses, suitable for the smartest occasions. Wear these with heels and a wrap or bolero for perfect cruise style. It's also worth bringing a few extra evening looks ranging from casual to "night out" style. That way whatever the activity you'll have something appropriate. A pair of smart trousers and some nice tops should be enough for the more casual evenings, while a couple of glitzy dresses should fill in the middle.
Cruises are no longer as formal as they used to be, but many do still have black tie evenings, dinners and balls. Plus we all love to dress up once in a while.
Prepare for the weather
No matter what time of year it is it can still be chilly on deck, so it's a good idea to take some warmer clothes. Particularly if you think you'd like to go outside at night, just pack a few stylish knits in your bag. Cardigans are a particularly good choice as they can be layered with your other outfits.
One of the advantages of a cruise that leaves straight from home is that you won't usually have a luggage allowance. Perfect for looking you best every day that you're on board. Though you will have to keep weight in mind if you're flying to your departure point.
Don't forget that most ships do have laundry facilities so if you feel your wardrobe is a little limited then it's good to know you can wash and wear.
